The TITs Week 77

3 May

Esteemed Clevage Consultants,

Everything in my life is pretty steady right now and nothing has gone terribly wrong for close to a week. This is something novel for me and it feels unreal, so I hope that most of you are going through a similar uplifting stint of good fortune. But just incase you’re not, please take these musical tokens as padding to soften all the bullshit-related blows currently being jousted at you from whatever corners of karma fucktown you may have angered; god knows I’ll be right back in your situation at some point or another.

- Signed Sincerely, The Worst Guy

Flosstradamus – Rollup

Everything Flosstradamus has been producing as of late has tickled me in a way that if Loretta tickled me I’d say, “Oh ya, that’s nice…that’s the spot.” The same goes for modern Trap music production in general.

P.S. here’s some more awesome Trap music.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mr. Oizo – Stade 3
Mr. Oizo – WC
Mr. Oizo – Textes
Love him or hate him, Quentin Dupieux has one of the most sadistically brilliant minds in the world of french experimental music, and film. Whether it be a tire on a mission to kill, or a pint sized stuffed animal playing chess with William Fichtner, the bearded madman never ceases to spew creativity and this new release is but another extension of his dizzyingly irregular take on the world. I for one cant get enough of both his music (past and present) and his films, and will continually be a flat eric fanatic for as long as the man has breath in his body and a beard on his face.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Deadmau5 – Closer Rev 2

Deadmau5 – Superliminal

The Joel is back in Toronto. The Joel is finishing up his studio renovations. The Joel is plugging everything in and tinkering around. The Joel is busy. The world is waiting.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Don’t Stop (Oliver Remix)
Mr. Overtime (Oliver Remix)
Although I have been very attached to Oliver’s music for quite some time now, it really wasn’t until I saw U-Turn (1/2 of the duo) spin here in Toronto @ The Gladstone Hotel that their music became entrenched in every play list I create. Their funky ‘Justice-esque’ basslines and whispingly elegant synth and vocal work puts me in an unshakably good mood, especially in peak rush hour traffic. My review of said concert will be surfacing shortly, so you’ll be able to see exactly what im talking about.
P.S. more mellow happy fun time music:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Daydreamer (Jack Beats Remix)

Daydreamer (Danny Byrd Remix)

To be perfectly honest im really not that impressed with Flux Pavilion’s new original release, nor am I with Dillon Francis’ Remix, which is funny as they are two of my current favourite artists and I had been anticipating this specific release for quite some time (thanks to twitter). But I guess things don’t always turn out the way you plan, so let’s just all be thankful that Jack Beats’ name was amongst those on the remix list; I don’t think I’ve ever disliked anything they’ve produced.

The Danny Byrd Remix is also quite fantastic. I’m not too sure how many of you TIT readers I’ve converted into DnB fans yet, but I do hope its more than zero, cause if not you guys have no idea what you’re missing out on (both musically and culturally).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tira o Pe (Jay Fay Remix)
The Buraka bregade have been slated to open for Justice and M83 here in Toronto on August 4th, and I cannot wait to see what all the fuss is about. After stumbling across the Portugese musicians via Caspa’s remix of their recent single The Hangover, I rifled through most of their discography contently but really didn’t get much of that ‘shit my pants’ feeling. However, I have been assured that their live presence is a force to be reckoned with and accents their Kuduro style of music far beyond the levels achievable through an electronic listening device.
P.S. here’s some Moombahton for y’all:
P.S. big ups to feathermane of Vacay for finding/posting most of these
Indubitably Dubstep Vol. LVI
2 May
Fellow Sun Bathers,
The thermostat has slowly been rising, the sun has been chillin for a lot longer than before, and girls are dressing themselves in as little apparel as legally possible. Yup, its finally summer again (Cue the Andy Williams classic). Besides the bikini bottoms and Blue Jays baseball, this summer in the province of Ontario is sure to be a landmark for Canadian music festivals. It’s taken quite some time for the festival frenzy to make its way up north but the summer of 2012 will mark the end of our inexcusable hiatus. While we all anxiously wait for IDFest, Digital Dreams, Veld, and of course, WEMF, its only proper for these mammoth basswaves to get blasted into battle with the sticky heatwaves and see which comes out victorious.
- Signed Sincerely, Dr. Robotnix
Flux Pavilion, Example – Daydreamer
The days of Top 40 Dubstep are upon us thanks to tracks like this one. Nothing against Flux Pavilion or Example, its just that this poppy number feels like it was molded by the higher powers; in need of some Dubstep they can blast on the radio they went to arguably the biggest name in the genre and one of the most recognizable vocalists today. I hate to say it, but this just might be the Dubstep version of ‘Levels’.
Seven Lions – Below Us feat. Shaz Sparks
Jeff Montalvo aka Seven Lions has created probably one of the best trance/dubstep fusions I have ever heard. Deep vocals and big room synth lines collide with devastating bass to mold a super sexy menace of a tune.
Lana Del Ray – Born To Die (Gemini Remix)
If catchy vocals is the theme of this week, then this track takes the cake as the catchiest lyrics. Nobody should ever doubt Gemini’s ability to orchestrate such beautiful music, and his employment of strings in this one make it an extremely emotional piece.
Bare – Enemies (Original Mix)
Bare’s newest EP, ‘Ursa Major’ receives mixed results from my initial review. After listening to it several times, I honestly can say its a step down from his ‘World of Hurt’ EP. The only track I enjoy listening to is this one, and much of that comes from the fact that he samples one of my favourite 2Pac tracks. Don’t take my word for it, and go grab the full EP on Beatport.
Sub Focus – Out The Blue feat. Alice Gold
After months and months of relying on shitty YouTube rips, Sub Focus finally drops his instant classic, along with a bevy of big name remixes. Again, the vocals make up a huge part of this song, and gently carries the track to its high powered energetic break with the most irresistible kicks in the DnB game. Grab this and the remixes on Beatport.
Skrillex & Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley – Make It Bun Dem
Nothing new here folks. Sonny’s newest banger with the King of Jamrock has been ripped a dozen and a half times, by the most anxious of fans. Now that its released, I’m only doing my part in throwing this up here to support the rudebwoy himself, and to give y’all a chance to cop a 320 if ya don’t have it already. Show your support and buy it off Beatport.
Melleefresh, Deadmau5 – Hey Baby (Dirtyloud Mix)
Its not that often I get to throw up the Mau5′s name on here, so every time I find a chance to it’s gonna be big. Half between a buzzing fury of bass glitches and orgasm samples, Dirtyloud just absolutely kills it with this one. Watch out for that 4×4 break, it comes out of nowhere and will leave a bloody mess after.
Tha Trickaz – Kill It, Fuck It feat. Non Genetic (Original Mix)
The equation for a club smasher always requires lyrics that are: 1) easy to remember 2) has swears in it. This being the case, Tha Trickaz will be sure to hear this track play out in every set in the near future. Although, its somewhat uneasy when the lyrics go ‘Kill it, Fuck it, Eat it’…in that order. Either Tha Trickaz have their priorities mixed up, or they are some serious g’s.
James Egbert – Milky Way Wars feat. Brittany Egbert (Original Mix)
Coming off his long awaited EP ‘In The Beginning’, James Egbert is sure to decimate crowds with this rager. Combining light synths and heavy basslines, James has managed to create a track that will be sure to land him in the upper echelon of producers. Grab the full EP on Beatport.
Captain Panic! – Death March (Rekoil Remix)
Moving away from the melodic vocals of most of these tracks, Rekoil’s remix of Death March literally sounds like he has created a glitch-hop track from samples from the depths of hell. One of my favourite new combinations has been the mixing of hip hop beats with dubstep nastiness, and Rekoil plays right into my heart with this one.
Hulk – No Apology (Original Mix)
Hulk, made up of gamma rays and Claw and Richie August are two major shareholders in the heavier side of Dubstep they like to refer to as ‘Hulkstep’. Always counted upon to destroy sub woofers and devirginize young raver girls, these two haven’t turned the volume below 11 since they were 11 years old. Starting the track off with heavy kicks and ominous synths, they build the tension until its farthest point, then go Hulk Smash on the rest of the tune.
Gramatik – Illusion Of Choice
One of my favourite producers, Gramatik has just come out with his first Dub heavy EP #digitalfreedom. Known mostly for his unique hip-hop beats and the like, this EP gives a fresh face to his style, all while staying true to his personal timbre. Gramatik will be going on tour shortly, heres hoping he makes his way up north. Go an grab the full EP on Beatport.
The TITs Week 72: Post St. Patty’s Edition
18 Mar
`
Fellow Recover-ees,
I’m not too sure about what was going on anywhere else (well besides large alcohol consumption), but here in London St. Patricks Day tends to get a little out of hand. Yeah yeah I know, us Londonders think we’re harder than everyone else and blah blah blah, but what happened here last night was just too much. Essentially, out near Fanshawe a group of over 1000 people hurled bricks, tire-irons, bottles and about everything else, at Fireman, Cops and anyone else telling them to calm down a little and act somewhat civil. This of course did the opposite, and eventually the riot gear’d cops had to retreat as the mob’s ferocity swelled out of control – culminating with the torching, and subsequent exploding, of a CTV news truck. Since I was not directly involved I don’t quite know how the whole thing began or who started it, but what I know for sure is that this never would have happened on 4/20.
Anyways I hope everyone had a lovely day of lewdness and debauchery, and feel free to use the music provided to either continue yesterday’s party, or recover from it.
- Signed Sincerely, The Worst Guy
Illegal
Bringin’ It Back
Powerfool
After years of honing his Hip Hop skills, it seems that the Slovenian-born Brooklyn resident has dipped his hand into the world of Tech-House production. Now normally im not the biggest fan of the genre, but these three tracks off his new 13 track Gr4m4tik release have been the perfect compliment to all the lovely weather we’ve been having here in Ontario, and each showcases the incredible originality that the man possesses. Expect a lot more amazing things from this man as the year progresses.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So far this new installment of Free Treats from the OWSLA family of artists has been brought up in more conversations I’ve had with fellow EDM lovers than any other release in 2012 thus far. And for good reason, as the dancing plethora of talented up and coming artists that the label houses seemed to have saved some of their best work for this release – specifically Alvin Risk and The M Machine. The label itself has been gobbling up young and talented producers at the same rate that Skrillex‘s music climbs the charts, and the scary part is this release seems to be only the tip of the iceberg of what is to come from this newborn label.

P.S. here’s some more new tracks from OWSLA artists:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rasclat Riddim
No Problem (feat. Flinch and Kay)
Trying to keep up with all the collaboration projects Diplo has done, is doing, and will be doing in the future, is a daunting task for us music bloggers. However, I have continually done so with a smile on my face because I know that 90% of the resulting tracks that surface are going to contain noises that I have yet to fathom, regardless if the song is listenable or not. Also he has a large affinity for Moombahton, a trait that I am proud to share with him and many others.
P.S. here’s some more new Moombahton:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Iron Deer Dream (Delta Heavy Remix)

I was going to leave this one for Dr. R to share with you guys in the upcoming installment of Indubitably, but then I remembered that they will be playing here in Toronto on Friday – alongside Andy C and Doctor P at The Guvernment as a part of Projek Bassweek. Regardless of how awesome the above track is, I feel it is my duty to warn anyone in Leaf-land of the severe consequences of missing this concert, and to repost the ticket link for all those who are reading this and panicking.

Last Night (Brodinski remix)

When I got on Soundcloud this morning to see what I had missed whilst hammered, I noticed this track had been favourited or commented on by a healthy chunk of the people I follow. After listening to it the first time I didn’t think much of it, but maybe its because I was still pretty out of it, as for the remainder of the day I found myself coming back to it time and time again. To tell you the truth im not even so sure why I like it so much, maybe peer pressure on Soundcloud is just that effective.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The renovations are almost fully complete, and the mau5 is finally back in the studio and tinkering around…
Thank the fucking lord!
The TITs Week 71
11 Mar
Fellow Music Lovers,
Aside from the incredibly fantastic weather, this week has spawned way more music than I could hope to simplify down to my usual TITs format. And for good reason too, as the fact that sunlight once again = warmth here in Ontario is going to consistently draw me away from any and all types of school work and daily responsibilities in the coming weeks. I know a lot of you feel the same way, so just remember to make the small amounts of down time you have between parties and whatnot count.
So in the spirit of Spring, here is all the wonderful music that accompanied the rising change in temperature and communal morale this week.
- Signed Sincerely, The Worst Guy
